About Karen Sossin
Karen has been a Nutritionist for over 25 years and is the owner of Heart & Soul, a Nutrition Consulting company. Karen has an undergraduate degree in Nutrition from Colorado State University and a graduate degree in Nutrition with a concentration in Exercise Physiology from Long Island University. Karen is a Licensed and Certified Dietitian in the state of New York. She has been certified in Health and Fitness from the American College of Sports Medicine. She is also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor as well as a Mindful Based Eating Awareness Instructor. Other evidence based trainings and certifications include Body Project Facilitator and Be Body Positive Facilitator.
Karen served as the Regional Nutrition and Education Trainer for Western Suffolk BOCES for 10 years and continues as a frequent workshop leader to the Student Support Services Center. She was the Nutrition Advisor to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, providing her expertise to the Wrestling Minimum Weight Certification Program. Karen was also the Project Director for the Female Athlete Triad Awareness and Prevention Program, targeting student athletes throughout the state. She has also served as Project Consultant for Think. Eat. Play; optimizing health in female athletes, a program through the non-profit, Mental Fitness, Inc.
Karen has served as an adjunct professor at Long Island University teaching Nutrition and Sport. She has a private practice specializing in sports nutrition, adolescent health, disordered eating, body image and wellness. She has been published in several journals, newsletters as well as reference books in the field of nutrition. An inspirational and motivational speaker, her experience working with non-profits, organizations and corporations has given Karen the opportunity to work with schools and communities throughout the country.
